TW of the rape variety for thread and links

Eirwyn mentioned starting a Daily Dose of Rape Apologism thread. Then, I found some follow up comments on a post at a friend's blog that I thought begged for it, so here goes.

My buddy Rachel posted Today in Rape Culture on her blog Women's Health News, complaining about the show Tosh.0. She has received a lot of grief over it, including two new comments today accusing her of censorship and needing to hear the other point of view. (Brilliant, incisive, original arguments....*eyeroll*) She answers them, sort of, on today's Sunday News Round Up. (Sorry about the multiple links). She has had to start some more aggressive comment moderation because of responses to her post.

I have jumped in a little, but I am seriously burned out on it. If anyone wants to jump in with a take down, I am sure it would be appreciated.

So, let me get this straight- we're fighting people in the comments section? I'll head over there and read stuff and see if that's something I can do. I recently got my fight on at Deviantart and it went surprisingly well- I actually felt pretty confident after it ended even though I didn't manage to get the other person to back down. Although rape apologism has much more potential to trigger than slut-shaming, for me.

I'm pretty damned sure THIS counts as apologism. BE WARNED: it's pretty nasty, basically ~Speaker Boner~ is trying to redefine rape as something that ONLY happens when force is involved.

*Sigh...* Cue depression.

Does this count as rape apologism? In a Bruce Lee movie, I think it was Enter The Dragon, a woman is cornered by an American man. Impending rape is implied. She cuts herself in an attempt to die before this happens.

Wikipedia portrays this as her choosing 'death before dishonor'. :l

re:HR3: I can understand where someone is coming from if they support an evenly applied restriction on abortion, even if I think their position is massively ignorant. I can't understand how it seems okay to exclusively prevent poor women from accessing abortion, while leaving wealthy women's options untouched. Plus the rape apologism. The "taxpayers shouldn't have to foot the bill" argument doesn't remotely hold water. I don't think we should have started the Iraq war, but my parents' taxes are still going to it, and wars are an order of magnitude more expensive than the assorted tax breaks etc. that would pay for abortions. The whole bill is an icky mess.
