The way my brother treats his girlfriend is terrible. Earlier today I caught him accusing her of 'talking back to him'. And then later in the evening they were talking, and there was a pause in the conversation so she began to speak, and he started complaining that she interrupted him. He always complains that people interrupt him. I want to tell him, M, it's called a conversation. You make time for the other person to speak. That's why it's not called 'monologuing'.

He also calls her 'airheaded' and an 'idiot' and I've overheard him ranting at her and berating her.

I think she knows he's abusive on some level, but she can't really get away from him because they have a child together and she can't work, so she's dependent on him. :l

It's really hard to live in a house with abuse even if it's not directed at you. Sorry.

That is basically the relationship between my mom and my stepdad. I have nothing to offer but sympathy, it's a horribly toxic atmosphere to be in. I'm not even sure what my mom thinks about it, sometimes she pushes back but she still puts up with far too much.*Hugs* if you want them.

I talked to N again and her answer has changed this time. I thought she couldn't work before because of anxiety and depression, now she says her body is just achy and she needs to see a doctor, but she does intend to work and get away from my brother someday. That's good.

B_ESM, I'm really sorry your mother has to deal with your stepdad, and sorry you've had to put up with it, too. :C
