I hope nobody minds me putting my ideas up here. Personally, what works for me is distraction. Cutting off the bad feelings by distracting myself with entertainment - particularly TV shows. Nothing too heavy, of course.
For me, it feels like my mind can get sometimes caught up in a loop, and I end up at the point where nothing makes sense and there's absolutely no point thinking about it - it's just bad, and painful. I like to think of distraction as a way of letting my mind ease up on the loop, and "rest" as much as possible.
It's certainly not easy, but it's the only thing I know that works for me.
