Works like a charm! Thank you. :)

Edit: Oh, one thing, though. I've found that in Google Reader all the other feeds I follow have a little clickable button on every item that takes you to the original post. The items in your feed don't have that, so I have to read them right in Google Reader, which gets awkward when I start clicking footnote links and it takes me to the Atom feed page instead of the original post. I unfortunately have no idea how you might go about fixing that, but I would really appreciate it if you did. Maybe it's an Atom vs RSS thing, or maybe there's some way somewhere to have the feed item automatically provide a link back to its original.

I like your post about pronouns, by the way! It is shiny.

Hex: I've just (I hope) fixed that. Tell me if it worked.

EDIT: I've set up Thunderbird, on my computer, to read the feed. I get a link to the post, like I'm supposed to, although I don't know if that's Thunderbird automatically following the <id> link or whether it's the new <link rel="alternate"> that I just added that did it.

This makes me notice that the feed has the disadvantage that it doesn't have my stylesheet. (And Thunderbird, at least, is ignoring all (most?) of the styles altogether, even the ones that are written into the HTML content.) Of course, I am supposed to be designing the website to degrade gracefully if you don't have the stylesheet, and I am primarily designing posts to be read on the website rather than elsewhere, but I can't resist wanting to provide TEH BEST USER EXPERIENCE POSSIBLE. :P

The feed not having your stylesheet is one of the reasons I like to have that source link - I prefer to read blog posts in their natural habitat. :)

Your old posts still aren't showing up to Google Reader with handy little source buttons. I have no idea why. Sorry I can't be more helpful in diagnosing the problem. It might just be that Google Reader hasn't refreshed them, and the next ones will turn out all right.

Edit: Joy and delight! They have the buttons now! Maybe, like I said, Google Reader just took a while to catch up.

...uh, and then there's the slight trouble I had trying to upload an avatar:

Ah, that's a relative link issue that I missed. See how it says /main/posts/upload_avatar.py? It's supposed to be /main/upload_avatar.py, but because you did it in the /main/posts/ path, and I forgot to make the necessary workaround, it went to the wrong address.

I have now made the necessary workaround.

Speaking of your avatar... does it represent anything in particular? I always end up staring at it and trying to figure out what it is. :P

It's a stock photo of ink in water. I made it because I like the colours and the abstract wispiness. I realize it directly contravenes most of your extremely sensible resizable avatar guidelines, but oh well. :D

No, it doesn't. It's actually a really good avatar, because of the strong light/dark contrast, and because it has a unique overall shape when seen from a distance.

I thought the subtlety of the gradients would disqualify it for sure, but hey, you're the expert. Awesome!
