Since I found blogs like Fugitivus, Racialicious, Shapely Prose, and Shakesville last year, I've been absorbed in how well they analyze stuff that has been bothering me, especially around misogyny and rape. A few months ago, a major triggering event got me to work intensively on healing from the past. All of these blogs have been an awesome help in becoming smart and strong to deal with my shit. Most of all, Harriet Jacobs has been speaking directly to many of the issues that matter most to me, and her analysis and her voice nail the truth better than just about anything I've seen. Fugitivus has a lucid body of work that's very valuable for referring people to, to give them a clue. I found when writing my own experiences and analyses of being a rape survivor that I was quoting extensively from Harriet. She has been putting the truths I want to express into words better than anyone. So that's why I find great value in forums like this.

Pandora's Aquarium has also proven to be a great community in terms of survivor support. I was able to get through the worst of my shit with their support. But moving beyond the immediate cry/sis into long-term action, it's vital to present a cogent political analysis of rape culture and misogyny, and this is where Fugitivus and its sister blogs come in. I just want to say well done, sisters!

It makes sense to have a Fugitivus discussion space too. The blog has attracted so many keen minds with so much to say about stuff that really matters, and Harriet prefers no blog comments, so she's like Here, all of you go talk to each other. Works for me. Although the most valuable of her writings that have helped me a lot I didn't find in her blog posts. I found them in her comments.

Hi, welcome! I'm really glad you were able to find the support you need from Fugitivus. It helped me a lot, too, during a time when I was ruminating endlessly about this fucked up world culture and rape. Fugitivus has taught me the value of speaking up. Trolls might come and try their best to take you down, but ultimately speaking up will help other people who have gone through the same things, and create solidarity.

Yeah! It's reassuring to see that other people think this is such a necessary kind of conversation to have, too. Then I don't feel like a weirdo for wanting to talk about this stuff! You rock!
