...otherwise known as the catch-all for things that are horrible, but don't have any specific place to go.

I almost walked out of class on Thursday. Second week of class and already we're dealing with the ~dudebro~ population. We were talking about a midwestern man [white, of course] who passed himself off as a Japanese poet who survived Hiroshima and wrote poetry about it. The world [particularly the literature world] went bonkers over it, since stuff from other nations generally doesn't make its way to literary journals in the midwest.

When it was exposed that it was not a Japanese person that wrote the poetry, everybody was utterly furious. They felt that a crime had been committed, that the person creating the persona was a horrible person, and the whole scandal was front-page news in Japan. Understandably so, if you follow.

So, several of us brought up the privilege inherent in someone from the country that bombed the city telling them [the survivors] how to feel, and also how rude and stuff it is to pass yourself off as an expert in something when you have no idea what it's like. I dropped in a comment about how it's like, in an online discussion of race, for someone to present themselves as an expert on ~how black people feel~ only to turn out to be a white person.

And then douchebro inserts himself.

"You're all just mad that you didn't figure it out yourself!"

...

err. wat?

And then another guy pops off with, "Poetry isn't the place for political correctness."

... right, so now I'm just a humorless feminist. better than being an asshole like that.

Clearly, you're just jealous!!!! (Seriously though, both those comments are comparable to insisting that John Lennon actually was a walrus.)

As an aside, I don't like "of douchebro" as a name for a catch-all thread, both because it doesn't seem parallel to the other thread titles, and because (as far as I can tell) it's a reference to a particular stereotype that doesn't really fit the "catch-all" description at all. Nothing immediately comes to mind as a replacement though.

Well here's another clue for you all
The walrus was Paul...

Anyway, yeah, I'm a big fan of the "ur jus jelis" argument. It's my favorite!

you know, that's a really good point about the "douchebro" thing. perhaps ... "daily dose of [everything else]"? that'll work for now, I suppose.

I think daily dose of douchebro may fit for the "you're just jealous" douche, but I guess it doesn't exactly fit the Josh Brogan movie stereotype of the dudebro. How about "Daily Dose of WTF?" or "Daily Dose of WAT?"

And, can I just add one more UGH over the misuse of the term "political correctness"?

overheard today:

"oh wait, lol, there's a DIFFERENCE between sex and gender?!?!?!"

now, I realize that not everybody knows about sex [physical organs] and gender [what your brain thinks] and the differences, but this is the guy who, all term, has been bleating about how he HATES!!! PC-ness and how he is the opposite on purpose. aka, willful ignorance.
