Hello.

First, I just wanted to say "Thank you!" to Harriet and this whole community. I came here to do that since comments are disabled, and yes, I do know that Harriet J. doesn't hang out here, but I just wanted to say it because I'm not the only person encouraged by seeing and hearing more people who don't frighten me. I see that I'm far from the first person to express such sentiments, but Fugitivus is an encouraging beacon of sanity and eye-opener. I'm also immensely grateful for the existence of safe places like this, where we can be dignified human beings and practice intellectual freedom. After stumbling onto the blog and reading around, I feel more hope and security than I've felt in years despite being shocked at how much I've failed to see from my privileged position as a white (but possibly racially ambiguous- the most privileged in some ways, I think) male wallflower. I've been perceived as "gay or something like that," but I actually liked how it kept asshats away from me so obviously I never got anything like my share of bashing.

Speaking of privilege, I kinda expect to be most active in the 101 section until I feel comfortable opening my mouth elsewhere. I have basically no social life, so I interact regularly with very few people, most of them in a professional environment. Probably no one knows what I'll call them out on, and most people who seem to notice my existence are probably more sensitive and tactful than I anyway. I get my daily horrors from poop culture, since people don't feel comfortable telling "those jokes" around me- not because I've been a mensch and fought the good fight, but because I'm seen and not heard, if I'm outside my cave at all.

Again, thank you for providing a safe place. I have trust and self-image issues and if there's anywhere I can learn to open up, it's here.

Hey, Boo. Welcome to the forum! It's great to hear about Fugitivus helping people, and always awesome to have people coming to join us here. Please check out the Code of Conduct; now you've proved you're not a spambot, I'll go give you access to the rest of the boards.

(monsieur le purple piggy says hi!)

Hi, Boo! Welcome to the boards. You can call me Hex. What are your thoughts on hugs?

Thanks for the welcomes, y'all!

Thanks, Tevarre. I checked out the rules before signing up just to be sure there's nothing I might have trouble following. Tell Purple Piggy I said "Hi" too.

Hugs are nice. Instinctively I can only imagine being physically affectionate with some one I'm emotionally very close to, but I've learned to be cool with more tactile people hugging me too. I like knowing that it comforts people.

Aww, are you sorry because you're now challenging me to a trial of possession? If so, I choose augmented. Should I prevail, I demand literal lols.

D'aww. :)

How about hugs in boxes, then? I like handing them out that way on the internet because it's a good way to communicate the gesture of comfort/affection/etc without even implicitly demanding the cooperation of the recipient. It is, after all, their choice whether to open the box.

I'm sorry to ruin the banter, but I don't know what that means. It might be some kind of cultural reference I'm missing. XD
